Data source · how a live feed plugs in

Today's entries are read from data/latest.json, one record per item, with a copy of the same edition written into this page as a fallback if that file is missing or malformed. Each record carries nine fields: category, region, language, type, title, source, timestamp, summary and the article's own URL. Nothing else in the layout reads the content directly, so replacing the file replaces the edition.

An edition is assembled from the source list each morning — RSS and Atom feeds for news outlets, the OpenAlex and Crossref APIs for journals, and institutional publication pages for reports and gray literature — and normalizes every item into that record shape. Category and region are assigned at ingest by keyword and source rules; language comes from the feed; the 2–3 sentence summaries and the three highlights are drafted from the source text alone and published without a review step.

Each edition holds the entries published on its own date. This page carries about one week of entries; those from the past days of the week are marked Earlier and keep their own dates. Older entries move to the Earlier page, grouped by the same nine classifications and by month. A classification with nothing sourced in the week is left empty rather than filled.
