What an NDC is
Under the Paris Agreement every country sets out what it will do to cut emissions and adapt, and raises that ambition every five years.
The nationally determined contribution is the plan a country submits to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The second round sets targets to 2035. It only works if each sector has targets it can meet and the finance to meet them: for agriculture, for example, the Second NDC asks for cuts of 4.2 to 4.9 million metric tons of CO2e a year below current policy by 2035.
What the project does
It contributes the analysis behind sector targets and the pipeline that delivers them.
The project is under incubation within the Climate Crisis Risks, Carbon Management, and Net Zero Strategies program. It draws on the program’s modeling of climate shocks to the Indonesian economy, its emission accounting and its costed net zero roadmaps, and on the group’s work on carbon markets, which can carry part of the cost of the targets.
Implementation has become the focus of the climate process. The COP31 Presidency’s Climate Implementation Bridge works with five pilot countries, Indonesia among them, to turn NDC priorities into investment-ready projects.
